A solitary diving duck, difficult to photograph as it only surfaced for brief periods. The light was fading fast but colours just discernible - the pale grey back, orangey-brown head with crest, white neck and long hooked bill. The Goosanders frequent the shallow River Nith along the tidal stretch in the heart of the town.
