Fire salamanders

The fire salamander shown near a wall was about 6 inches long. I picked it up fom my driveway to move it to a safer location and was de-energised for the next 3 days spending most of the time in bed. I developed a rash around my waist.

Wow! Sounds nasty. Glad we don't have those, although they would be a colourful addition to our fauna.

Fire salamanders

I wish we had salamanders in Britain, for one it may make people think twice before picking up amphibians. The heat and chemicals on our skin can damage their skin. Also, they are such wonderful looking animals.
