Found in northeastern France on the Champagne/franche comte border. At the edge of woodland bordering farmland (maize cultivation) unfortunately there no leaves left on the trees surrounding the fungi but the woodland is mixed broadleaf containing everything from beech to medlars, spindle trees, robinia, oak, ash, and wild service trees. The mushroom had quite a strong smell and was very tough. it did not lactate. I have not been able to find anything like this in my guides.
