Pinkish-red algae with white tips abundant in rock pools within mid-lower tidal zone of Whitburn beach. Photos 5 & 6 show extent of coverage and this was typical of most areas along the short stretch we visited. Photos 7 & 8 were taken in-situ and show branching habit with opposite pairs and note “3 terminal segments at the tips (Photo 9). In the water, this species appears more pinkish but on removing a specimen attached to rock (Photos 1-4) the stems appear darker red-purple. Fronds on this specimen were 7cm in height (20 pence size reference).
